Inauguration of National Literacy Movement 2010...

NCHD held a ceremony to inaugurate National Literacy Movement 2010 at president house Naudero. Senior Minister for Education Sindh Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, Mrs. Faryal Talpur MNA, and many other government officials and dignitaries attended the function.

At this occasion, Mrs. Faryal Talpur inaugurated two Literacy Centers of NCHD, one each in village Nanda Mohil Union Council Bahman and village Bando Kubo Union Council Ratodero. While addressing the gathering, she said that NCHD will play its role in connection to “Education For All”. She said that the closed schools would be reopened while NCHD will work in close collaboration with the provincial government in education and health departments, and administer the vaccination against hepatitis B, C and D to the students. In this regard, the officials of the health/education departments and NCHD may soon coordinate with each other.

Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq also spoke about status of education in the country and said that District Governments and NCHD will work together for the promotion literacy in the country.

  • 120,263 Adult Literacy Centers were opened (86% were female learners)
  • 2.68 million Adult learners graduated with 90% females.
  • More than 150,000 teachers trained on Adult literacy teaching techniques, and assessment of learning achievements.
  • About 100 civil society organizations including 2,000 professional were trained in Implementation of Literacy Program.
  • 12,000 Literacy Supervisors were trained in Management of literacy centers.
NCHD was awarded with “The International Reading Association Literacy Prize 2006” by UNESCO in recognition of its contributions.
Government of Pakistan declared NCHD the Lead Agency for Literacy in Pakistan.
