The
cheers and emotions of Khanzada and Shabana were unable
to express in words when they received their new born
baby in their hands. They were not expecting the delivery
of a safe and sound baby after the stress, hunger, and
unbearable living conditions they had to face.
The
couple was living a happy life in Kamber, a small village
of Swat. They were not ready to leave their home as
Shabana was eight month pregnant, but the intense fighting
between militants and security forces compelled them
to move towards the safe destination. Taliban were using
local people as their shield which left the couple with
no option and they along with other family members started
their journey towards a blind destination. They took
shelter in mountains for several days without proper
food under intense shelling and bombing. Finally, they
reached Shergarh (A place near Mardan) in a very pity
situation.
Shabana
was severely dehydrated and was about to loose her baby
when NCHD Mobile Health Unit visited Shergarh. The medical
team carried her to base camp where she was provided
with proper check up and medication. Her condition stabilized
after the treatment and she was shifted to the ward.
Regular antenatal check ups facility by the NCHD medical
team improved her health and she gave birth to a healthy
baby on June 27th, 2009.
Both
Shabana and Khanzada are extremely grateful to NCHD
which has provided great support to the IDPs.
