MoU Signed with NATPOW...

National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with National Trust for Population Welfare (NATPOW) for the program titled “Literacy for Family Health”. For this purpose, a ceremony was held in Islamabad on January 5, 2009. Federal Minister for Population Welfare Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan was the chief guest.

Through this program NCHD will be introducing health literacy in its Adult Literacy Centers where learners, mostly women, will be informed about personal hygiene, safe drinking water, primary health, neo natal and post natal care, safe delivery, human rights, life skills and even early childcare development.

  • 120,263 Adult Literacy Centers were opened (86% were female learners)
  • 2.68 million Adult learners graduated with 90% females.
  • More than 150,000 teachers trained on Adult literacy teaching techniques, and assessment of learning achievements.
  • About 100 civil society organizations including 2,000 professional were trained in Implementation of Literacy Program.
  • 12,000 Literacy Supervisors were trained in Management of literacy centers.
NCHD was awarded with “The International Reading Association Literacy Prize 2006” by UNESCO in recognition of its contributions.
Government of Pakistan declared NCHD the Lead Agency for Literacy in Pakistan.
