Brigadier Mukhtar Ahmad, S.I.(M), President, World Wide Fund for Nature- Pakistan

Brigadier Mukhtar Ahmad has served the Pakistan Army for 27 years. After retiring from active military service in 1986, he has pursued his passion for environmental issues by advocating sustainable development. He is currently President of the World Wide Fund for Nature, Pakistan. His role as president of Houbara Foundation International Pakistan, Falcon foundation International Pakistan, and Deer foundation International Pakistan also illustrates his love for nature conservation. As president of the Human Welfare & Nature Conservation Society, he has displayed his belief in the importance of community development and the sustainable use of natural resources


Dr Nasim Ashraf

Dr Nasim Ashraf is the Chairman of the National Commission for Human Development, and a Minister of State. Prior to that, Dr. Ashraf served as the Team Leader for the President's Task Force on Human Development. Dr. Ashraf has been a community activist and a member of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America since 1978. He designed and implemented a highly successful model of primary health care to reduce disease and lower death rates in developing countries. This model, called APPNA SEHAT Village Improvement Program has been successfully carried out in rural Pakistan since 1989. In 1997 Dr. Ashraf co-founded the Human Development Foundation of North America (HDFNA), an organization dedicated to the empowerment of people at the grass roots level in America as well as Pakistan. He has also served as Chairman of the Oregon Medical Association Public Health Education Committee and President of Douglas County Medical Society. He is ultimately interested in the role of civil society in human development.


Mr. M. Irshad Khokar, Khokar & Co., Chartered Accountants
Mr Khokhar is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. He has been in Public Practice as Khokhar & Co, Chartered Accountants & Registered Auditors since 1974. With offices in London and Dubai, Mr.Khokhar is a director and shareholder in Mayfair Management Services as well as the European Land Group of Companies. His former Directorships include Merchant Bank and various Finance and Investment Companies. He was born in Lahore.


Moeen Qureshi

Chairman and Managing Partner, Emerging Markets Partnership Washington D.C. Mr Moeen Qureshi, began his career in finance and planning with the Government of Pakistan, following which he worked for 12 years with the International Monetary Fund. In 1970 he joined the International Finance Corporation (IFC), where he served first as Vice President and then as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Qureshi was appointed Chief Financial Officer in 1980, and became World Bank Senior Vice President in 1987. He left in 1991 to establish Emerging Markets Partnership, a private investment management company in Washington D.C. He was appointed Prime Minister of Pakistan for an interim period in 1993. In October 1993, he returned to his private business and is currently Chairman and Managing Partner of Emerging Markets Corporation.


Dr. Omar Atiq
Dr Omar Atiq is a gold medalist from Khyber Medical College. He is a renowned physician and cancer specialist who heads the Regional Cancer Institute in Arkansas USA. He has been president of the Khyber Medical College Alumni Association and is PresidentEelect of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America. Dr Atiq serves on the Governor of Arkansas's Commission for Healthcare and is a member of the Board of the QAID Project, USA, that co-produced the film "Jinnah", on the life of the founder of Pakistan. Dr Atiq has worked selflessly to promote the image of Pakistan in America.


Mr. Shaukat Aziz

Mr. Shaukat Aziz, Federal Minister for Finance, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Revenue, Government of Pakistan, began his career with Citibank Karachi. His assignments have included Head of Corporate and Investment Banking for the Asia Pacific Region; Corporate Planning Officer, Citicorp; Global Head, Private Banking for Citicorp, and Vice President of Citibank. In November 1999 he was appointed as Pakistan's Minister of Finance. He has been declared by "Euromoney" and "Bankers Magazine" as the Finance Minister of the year 2001.


Mr. Farrokh K. Captain

Mr Farrokh K. Captain is a graduate of the Massachussetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. After completing his Masters in Management and Chemical Engineering he worked as a Management Consultant with Arthur D. Little and established their practice in Pakistan. He has also led a major chemical manufacturing industry in Pakistan and been a director of Shell Pakistan Ltd and the American Business Council of Pakistan. He retired from active business at the age of 50 and has spent the years since exclusively in the field of social work. He is a Trustee of Layton Rehmatulla Benevolent Trust, and Chairman of the Friends of LRBT, as well as being associated in various capacities with the Doon School of Society of Pakistan, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust, The Central Institute of Arts and Crafts, The Sandal School and has a 28 years relationship of representing MIT in Pakistan.


Mr Muhammad Munir Chaudhry

Mr Muhammad Munir Chaudhry is a graduate degree holder, and works in the field of business and agriculture. He is a Chairman of the Board of Governors, H.H. Shaikh Zayed Medical Complex, Rahim Yar Khan. He is also a Member of the Board of Trustees, Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan Trust, Pakistan, and of the Sheikh Sultan Trust, Pakistan. He is an active Trustee of the Shalamar Hospital in Lahore, and has been an active Member of the Board of Governors of the Human Welfare and Nature Conservation Society.


Mr. Najeeb Ghauri, Director, NetSol Intl. Inc.
Najeeb U. Ghauri is the founder and Chairman of NetSol Technologies, Inc. (USA), the first US based Pakistani IT company to be listed on NASDAQ stock exchange in the US. He was nominated by Ernst & Young as 'Entrepreneur of the Year' in 2000 in California.

  • Dr. M. Rafiq Jan, Diplomate American Board of Family Practice

    Dr. Rafiq Jan, one of the first Pakistani physicians to practice in the United States, has been in the medical profession for the past forty-three years. Mr. Jan has a private practice and is an Executive Director at the West Side Medical Center. He has built two flourmills in his hometown of Hangu, for the purpose of enhancing employment. In addition, Mr. Jan has been running the Gul Free Eye Camp in Hangu. He currently lives and practices in New York.

    Dr. Shamsh Kassim-Lakha, President, Aga Khan University
    Dr. Shamsh Kassim-Lakha is the President and the founding trustee of the Aga Khan University. Dr. Kassim-Lakha has served on the board of The Pakistan Medical Research Council, Habib Bank Limited, and chairs the Pakistan Center for Philanthropy. In March 2002, President Pervez Musharraf appointed him as Chairman of the Steering Committee on Higher Education with the status of Minister of State to oversee the reforms in Pakistan's higher education. He was awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, by the President of Pakistan. In 2000, President Jacques Chirac of France conferred the award of Officer de L'Ordre National du Meritè (Officer in the French National Order of Merit).


    Mr Kamal Nasir Khan, Deputy Manager, SKB Construction, Ltd.
    Mr Kamal Nasir Khan is a Deput Manager of SKB Construction, Ltd. He is a qualified with a B.Sc in Civil Engineering. He is Chairman of Mera Pakistan Foundation, Lahore. Mr Khan is also a Member of the Board of Governors of the Human Welfare and Nature Conservation Society. He is a philanthropist who has worked diligently to promote education in remote areas of Pakistan.


    Dr. Saquib Khan
    Dr Saquib Khan is a Chairman of the Khan Group of Companies in New York, USA. He devotes his time and resources for community services to Pakistani Americans and is a member of the board of Americans for Peace and Justice in South Asia, an organization founded to interact with the media and think tanks in the USA, about issues concerning South Asia. Saquib Khan is a philanthropist who generously supports social projects both in America and Pakistan.


    Mr. Pervaiz Lodhie, Chairman, Ledtronics, Inc.
    Mr Lodhie is chairman of LEDtronics Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps, established in 1983. LEDtronics has 180 employees, sales offices worldwide and revenues approaching $20 million. Their manufacturing facilities are located in Torrance, California and Karachi, Pakistan, In 1992, the United States Small Business Administration awarded Mr Lodhie with the Administrator's Award for Excellence. The California State University, Los Angeles honored Pervaiz as a Distinguished Alumnus in 1998. Lodhie serves as a member of the School of Engineering and Technology Advisory Board.

    Mian Amer Mahmood, Nazim-e-Aalah Lahore

    Mian Amer Mahmood has an MBA from the University of Punjab, in Lahore. He has been Chancellor of the Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, in Karachi. He was elected as District Nazim, Lahore, in 2001. He is also Chairman of the Islamic Commerce Educational Society, Lahore (ICES). ICES established 27 Colleges of Commerce, Law, Business Administration, Computer Sciences & Information Technology in 7 cities of Punjab, and Mohammad Ali Jinnah University in Karachi. He has been Chief Executive of Educational Excellence Limited, Tower Technologies Inc. and Able Diversified Limited. He is also on the Board of Trustees of the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand. He is the President of the Lahore Division Football Association and Treasurer of the Pakistan Football Association.


    Dr. Musadik Malik
    Dr. Musadik Malik is serving as the Chief of Staff of the National Commission for Human Development. Dr. Malik previously worked with global management consulting firms including Arthur D. Little, Inc. and SRI Consulting. He has 10 years of consulting experience in the areas of innovation management, marketing strategy, portfolio management, technology strategy and outcomes research strategy for large pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies. He joined consulting after finishing a post-doctoral fellowship in Health Economics and Medical Decision-Making. He has taught graduate level courses in business strategy and marketing, and has multiple publications to his credit. He received his MBA, Marketing (1997), Ph.D. Pharmacy Administration - Marketing (1995), and M.S. Pharmacy Administration - Marketing (1993) from the University of Illinois.


    Mr. Muzammil H. Malik
    Mr Muzammil Malik is a very successful businessman in Michigan USA who has been serving the Pakistani American community for the last thirty years in the United States. He started the first radio programme on Pakistan in the USA. Mr Malik is also very active politically and is a member of the Board of Americans for Peace and Justice for South Asia. He donates generously to social causes, and is an active member of the board of the Human Development Foundation of North America.


    Arif Masood Naqvi, Managing Partner, Rasmala Partners Limited

    Born in Karachi, Mr Arif Naqvi was educated at the London School of Economics and began his career with Arthur Anderson and Co in London in 1982. Mr. Naqvi is curently a Managing Partner of Rasmala Partners Limited. He is also the founder of the Cupola Group, a leading regional private equity firm spread across the Middle East and the Sub-continent. From 1990 to 1994 Mr. Naqvi was Vice President of Business Development for the Olayan Group, Saudi Arabia's largest private trading company. Prior to this, he worked for American Express Bank in Karachi


    Mrs. Nadira Panjwani, Chairperson, Panjwani Foundation & Trusts

    Mrs Nadira Panjwani teaches at the Bahria University, Department of Management Sciences, Karachi. She is the founder and chairperson of Panjwani Foundation and Trusts which sponsors various welfare projects. In 1994 Mrs Panjwani established the Zainab Panjwani Memorial Hospital in Karachi. Another noteworthy project is the Dr Panjwani School Complex for the Blind which provides education to the visually handicapped in South Asia. Mrs Panjwani's current project is the establishment of the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine and Drug Development at the University of Karachi. In recognition of her philanthropic activities, the Government of Pakistan has honored her with the prestigious award of Sittara-e-Imtiaz


    Mr. Saeedullah Khan Paracha
    Mr Saeedullah Khan Paracha holds a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering, from the University of Arizona, USA. On his return to Pakistan, he became the Managing Director of the Paracha Textile Mills. Following this, he established his own contracting and trading company in Abu Dhabi. He moved back to the US in 1979, and established Shaheen Land Development and Investment inc in Tucson Arizona. In 1980, he simultaneously started work on Private Power Generation in Pakistan and the US. In 1994, he accompanied the Secretary of Energy of United States on President Clinton's Mission on Energy to Pakistan and signed a MOU with Government of Pakistan to establish a 157 MW Gas Fired Power Plant in Quetta. In 1999, the Power Plant, which is jointly owned by his company Habibullah Energy Ltd., Karachi and Coastal Power/EL PASO, USA, was constructed and commissioned.


    Dr. Rafiq U. Rahman

    Dr Rafiq U Rahman graduated from medical school in 1980 and was awarded membership in the Pakistan College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1984. He went to the U.S. in 1985 as an American Cancer Society Fellow (Audrey Meyer Mars International Fellowship). He completed a residency in internal medicine and hematology/oncology at the State University of New York, and Roswell Park Cancer Institute. From 1991 to 1992 he served in Harlan, Kentucky as part of service to undersigned areas. Since January 1993, he has been practicing hematology/oncology in Elizabethtown KY. He also holds an academic appointment at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. He is currently Chairman and Founder of the Community Uplift Program for Pakistan, and is a Board Member of Americans for Peace and Justice in South Asia.


    Mr. Farook Rahmatullah, Country Chairman & Managing Director, Shell Pakistan Ltd.

    Farooq Rahmatulah joined the Burmah Shell Oil Storage & Distributing Company on 1st March 1968. He has held various appointments in the company during his career. These include Retail, Human Resources, Chemicals, Distribution, Supply & Transport, Lubricants and Operations. From 1996 to 1998, Mr Rahmatullah spent 3 years in the UK as a Manager in the Business & Strategy Division of Shell International Petroleum Company, London. He is currently the Chairman & Managing Director of Shell Pakistan Limited. His philanthropic work is illustrated in his role as Board member of the Pakistan Centre of Philanthropy. He is also on the Board of Trustees of the Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust, Board of Governors of the Kidney Centre Post Graduate Training Institutes and on the Board of Governors of Lahore University of Management Sciences


    Begum Zari Sarfaraz
    Born in Mardan, NWFP, Begum Zari Sarfaraz is extremely active in the social realm. She is currently President of the NWFP TB Association, President of the SOS Children's Village, Dera Ismail Khan, NWFP, and Patron-in-Chief of Sarfaraz Khan District Hospital Charity Fund in Mardan. She is also President of the Pakistan Anti-Tuberculosis Association, and President of the Frontier Association for Mentally Handicapped. She is a Life Member of Pakistan Red Crescent Society. Begum Sarfaraz simultaneously holds the position of Chairperson at the Premier Sugar Mills & Distillery Co Ltd., Premier Board Mills in Mardan and Premier Ceramics Ltd in Lalamusa, Punjab. She is also Director of Syntron Limited, Gadoon Amazai, Syntronics Ltd, Hattar Haripur, Arpak International Investment Ltd, Islamabad, Chashma Sugar Mills Ltd, Dera Ismail Khan and The Frontier Sugar Mills & Distilery Co. Ltd, in Mardan. She has received numerous medals, including a gold medal from the Human Rights Society of Pakistan, in 1991 and a Gold Medal in 1995 from Pakistan Liberation Movement.


    Mr. Abdulazeem M.A. Al-Shamali, Chairman & Managing Director, Arabian Sea Enterprises Limited
    In 1986, the Kuwait Investment Authority nominated Dr. Shamali to represent the Kuwait Government's interests in Pakistan. He is the chairman of Pakistan Kuwait Investment Company Limited. He has also been serving as the Chairman and Managing Director of Arabian Sea Enterprises Limited, owners of Karachi Sheraton and Towers, and as Chariman of General Tyre Rubber and Company Limited. He has contributed significantly towards the establishment of Islamic Banking in Pakistan. He has also been involved in the health sector as a Management Consultant both in Kuwait as well as Pakistan.
